Attic Insulation
Why is insulating your attic so important?
The attic is one of the most important areas of a house to have effective insulation. Heat has a natural tendency to rise and will therefore escape through ceilings if allowed.
How much heat is lost through my attic?
It is estimated that a house can lose 30-35% of its heat through the attic. Most houses in Ireland have a thin layer of fibreglass attic insulation which is not sufficient to retain the heat from below.
Why should I use West Coast Insulation to upgrade my Attic?
West Coast Insulation can prevent heat loss by upgrading attic insulation in new and existing houses. Our experienced team can bring all homes up to the highest standard.
What type of insulation do you use to upgrade my attic?
We use Rockwool Rockprime Blown Loft Insulation and Knauf Ecose Mineral Wool. We cover all your attic areas with a 300mm layer of high quality attic insulation. This will prevent the heat from escaping, keeping the house warmer and less drafty.
Will insulating my attic reduce my heating bills?
With a large percentage of the heat escaping, the heating must be kept on longer to maintain a comfortable temperature in the home.
How much savings can I expect from insulating my attic?
A well insulated home can save can save up to €400 per year by upgrading the insulation in the attic.
Blown Attic Insulation
Rolled Attic Insulation
Rockwool Rockprime Blown Loft Attic Insulation
is a high quality and high performance insulating product. Rockwool is an extremely durable product made from rock and will not slump or decrease in depth over time. As this product is pumped into attic spaces, it has the ability to fill every possible void or gap allowing no heat to escape. from below Rockwool is quicker to install than traditional attic insulation products and with little disturbance to the home. Our technicians follow the steps below to provide the highest quality attic insulating to homes:
Step 1
Depth rulers are fixed around the attic space. This allows the technician to install Rockwool Attic Insulation to the desired thickness.
Depth ruler which allow the technician to install the attic insulation to the required level.
Step 2
Our technician will then bring a hose into the attic space and pump the insulation until it reaches the required depth. The main advantage of this method it that every gap in the attic will be filled completely.

Step 3
nsulating tank jackets and covers are fitted to the water tanks in the attic to protect from freezing in cold conditions and a walkways to the tanks is made where necessary. Pipe lagging is also improved to protect the pipes from freezing.
Step 4
Airflex, a thin, superior quality insulating panel is fixed to the back of the trapdoor to finish the attic insulation.
Step 5
Draft proofing is fixed around the attic door to leave the attic free from heating draining drafts. This atttic insulation is now finished and has the highest level of insulation.
Knauf Ecose Mineral Wool: is a newly developed product which provides the high standard of insulation without the itchiness of conventional fibreglass products. The brown layers of Knauf Mineral Wool are rolled out in the attic space between the joists and over the joists. Knauf Mineral Wool comes in depths of 200mm, 150mm and 100mm and can be installed at the desirable level. If no insulation exists and more than 200mm is needed, two layers of insulation will be installed.
Step 1: Our technician will examine the attic space and decide on the level of insulation needed. We will usually recommend that the attic insulation be brought up to 300mm or 12 inches. Therefore if 100mm of fibreglass is already in the attic, we will roll over this insulation with a further 200mm.
Step 2: Our technician will roll out one layer (if no insulation already exists) between the timber joists on the floor of the attic. These are tightly fitted in place between the timbers.
Step 3: Another layer of mineral wool is rolled out over the timber joists bringing the level of insulation up to 300mm.
Step 4: Insulating tank jackets and covers are fitted to the water tanks in the attic to protect from freezing in cold conditions and walkways to the tanks are made where necessary. Pipe lagging is also improved to protect the pipes from freezing.
Step 5: Airflex, an ultra-thin, superior quality insulating panel is fixed to the back of the trapdoor to complete the attic insulation. Finally draft proofing is fixed around the attic door to leave the attic free from heat draining drafts and with the highest level of insulation.
